Researchers claim internet users are casting aside their inhibitions and their clothes and surfing in their pyjamas, underwear and even the nude. The survey, commissioned by interactive services company AOL UK, reveals wide variations in the garments, or lack of them, worn by home Internet users across the country. Web users in Yorkshire are the most likely to strip off entirely, with 8% confessing to having surfed the net in the nude. West Country women also revealed a daring streak, with 27% admitting that they had worn just knickers or lingerie while emailing friends, chatting or shopping online. Respondents in Scotland and the Midlands opted for comfort, with 70% in the Grampians and 46% in the Midlands having slipped into their pyjamas while surfing at home. Other home internet users proved more conservative, with 24% in the South East, 19% in Scotland and 11% in Wales and East Anglia having gone online while still in their work clothes. But the most popular outfit for getting connected was jeans and a T-shirt, sported by 72% of Welsh home users, 63% of Anglian and 61% of London-based users. Psychologist Dr Susan Marchant-Haycox said: "Folk in the West Country who go online in their knickers or lingerie are probably more likely to conduct other daily chores such as cooking, cleaning and watching TV in minimal clothing too. "Scottish, Welsh and East Anglian internet users and those in the South East who prefer to keep their clothes on are also more likely to remain well-dressed when they go about their daily tasks."
